Food Sovereignty Program
Food Sovereignty: The Good Food Box Program
The Good Food Box Program is a community-driven initiative led by the Social Development Department to support Income Assistance recipients with access to fresh, healthy produce.
Each month, orders are placed by the second Thursday, and the boxes are delivered on the third Thursday. Every box contains a consistent selection of seasonal fruits and vegetables, including staples like potatoes, carrots, and onions. Items are chosen based on their quality, affordability, and availability at the time.
To help households make the most of their box, we include a monthly newsletter featuring:
- Storage and preparation tips
- Simple, nutritious recipes (included for less familiar items)
- Nutritional information
This program aims to reduce food insecurity by increasing access to nutritious food and resources that support healthier lifestyles throughout our community.
Community Programs
Community Programs
The Social Development Department works in alignment other departments to offer a range of meaningful, family-friendly programs and events for the Adams Lake community. These include:
- Traditional Food Sovereignty
- BBQs and Community Dinners
- Family Celebrations and Seasonal Events
- Workshops for Personal Growth
(e.g., True Colors, Trauma Healing Sessions)
A highlight of these initiatives is the Community Dinner, held on the last Monday of each month. This event is made possible through the support of the Child and Family Department and brings community members together to share a warm meal and meaningful connection.
Occasionally, these dinners also feature presentations and updates from various departments, creating opportunities to share helpful information and resources. The dinners are well attended, and we warmly encourage you to join us.
