Weyt-kp xwexwéytep,Shawna Biron ren skwekwst te re st̓7é7kwen Adams Lake Indian Band. I was raised by my mother, the late Geraldine (Nevdoff), her maiden name, Kenoras-Tousignant (many knew her as Babes), my Grandmother, Geneive Kenoras-Tousignant, and Father, Leonard Nevdoff, where I grew up in Salmon Arm.
I am deeply honoured and humbled to step into the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO) alongside Steven Teed, CEO. I come into the role recognizing the foundation of the decades of work of those who have come before me. I approach this responsibility with a deep sense of duty to our community and a commitment to the shared Secwépemc values.
In my career, I have had the privilege to work over the past decade in Indigenous health with FNHA, Interior Health, and communities across the Interior and province. My work has been deeply rooted in decolonization, cultural reclamation, and Indigenous Wisdom as the source of healing and wellness.
My academic background includes a Doctorate in Social Science, two master’s degrees, one in Counselling Psychology and one in Professional Communications, and a Bachelor of Business degree. My educational pursuit has been intended to provide me with the tools and knowledge to serve us as we navigate the complexities of colonial systems, across the organization’s pillars. My hope is that with my acquired life Wisdom of being Indigenous and the efforts of my personal cultural reclamation braided with my academic knowledge I can serve with cultural integrity. I strive to live by the teachings I have received and the voices of our Elders and teachers, who continue to inspire me.
As I take on this role, I am committed to working collaboratively to advance the health and wellness of our community. It is with great respect that I join the ALIB team in this shared journey.
